City Ballet of Cleveland Mission
The City Ballet of Cleveland, formerly Cleveland City Dance Company, is the pre-professional ballet company residing at Cleveland City Dance (CCD) open to students in ages 10-21, by audition. These students choose to take additional classes in ballet, jazz, and modern as well as to make time to rehearse choreography throughout the year.
The City Ballet of Cleveland’s mission is to be a ballet company of the highest caliber serving its communities through performance and education.
The Company’s vision is to be the leading ballet company in Northeast Ohio.
The self-disciplined, energetic, enthusiastic, and focused young dancers are rewarded with the wonderful opportunity to be exposed to guest instructors, choreographers, and dance professionals year round. The Company dancers uniquely serve as dance arts ambassadors when they perform at festivals including the prestigious Regional Dance America Northeast Festivals, local schools, workshops and fundraisers.
The students are divided into the Apprentice, Junior and Senior levels based on technical ability. Courtney Laves-Mearini, along with Mark Otloski, steer the direction of the ensemble toward continual growth.
The Company has performed at the Northeast Ohio Dance Festival, Shaker Square’s Farmers Market opening weekend and area schools. Many in the ensemble have also performed with professional companies including Pennsylvania Ballet’s Nutcracker, Kirov Ballet’s La Bayadere and American Ballet Theatre’s Le Corsaire. Some of the Senior Dance Company students have attended summer intensive workshops at American Ballet Theatre, School of American Ballet (SAB), Ballet Met, Pittsburg Ballet, Harid Conservatory, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ben Stevenson Academy, Julliard Dance and the Rock School.
