Cleveland City Dance Company- Cleveland Chamber Ballet

The Cleveland City Dance Company is the pre-professional division of Cleveland City Dance (CCD) open to students in ballet levels 2-5. These students choose to take additional classes in ballet, jazz, and modern as well as to make time to rehearse choreography throughout the year. The self-disciplined, energetic, enthusiastic, and focused young dancers are rewarded with the wonderful opportunity to be exposed to guest instructors, choreographers, and dance professionals year round. The Cleveland City Dance Company dancers uniquely serve as dance arts ambassadors when they perform at festivals, local schools, workshops and fundraisers. The students are divided into the Junior Company and Senior Company based on class levels. Courtney Laves-Mearini, along with Mark Otloski, steer the direction of the ensemble toward continual growth.

The Cleveland City Dance Company has performed at the Northeast Ohio Dance Festival, Shaker Square's Farmers Market opening weekend and area schools. Many of the ensemble have also performed with professional companies including Pennsylvania Ballet's Nutcracker, Kirov's Ballet's La Bayadere and ABT's Le Corsaire. Some of the senior company students have attended summer intensive workshops at School of American Ballet(SAB), Ballet Met, Pittsburg Ballet, Harid Conservatory, Pacific Nortwest Ballet, Ben Stevenson Academy, Julliard Dance and the Rock School.

The Cleveland City Dance Company is Cleveland City Dance’s pre-professional division open to students in Ballet II, III, IV, & V ages 11-19.

The creation of a cohesive performing ensemble is based on the consistent attendance by the dancers to their classes and rehearsals. The rehearsals are the only opportunity available to these students to work together as a Company. The requirements are

Junior Chamber Ballet (meets saturday only)

In Ballet II or III.
3 Ballet classes a week (ballet class must be attended the day of rehearsals)
1 Pointe class (if ready by staff decision) and 1 Modern class; jazz and tap are optional
Missed ballet classes must be made up within 6 weeks time.
If an absence is necessary during rehearsal time, please inform me as soon as possible so the understudy may focus on your position prior to your absence.No more than 4 absences from September - December, and no more than 4 absences from January - June.
Realize that if you miss rehearsal you must get together with the ensemble prior to the next week’s rehearsal to catch-up on your own time.
Casting changes can occur at the discretion of the instructor as well as additions to or removal of students to rehearsals.
Must participate in all fundraisers which assist paying for costumes for the Chamber Ballet and to pay for the theatre for the Chamber Ballet Spring Concert
$75 participation fee per semester

Senior Chamber Ballet (meets thursday & saturday)

In Ballet IV-V.
4 ballet classes a week (ballet class must be attended the day of rehearsals)
2 pointe classes, 1 Modern class and 1 jazz class; tap and hip-hop are optional.
Missed ballet classes must be made up in 6 weeks time.
If an absence is necessary during rehearsal time, please inform me as soon as possible so the understudy may focus on your position prior to your absence.No more than 4 absences from September - December, and no more than 6 absences from January - June.

Required to attend master workshops at Playhouse Square at least 2 times a year.
Must participate in all fundraisers which assist paying for costumes for the Chamber Ballet and to pay for the theatre for the Chamber Ballet Spring Concert.
$75 participation fee per semester

It is recommended that students attend dance classes of a minimum of two weeks during the summer so continue to progressing with their technique and artistry.
